Trans4m & CORO India Explore New Center for Grassroots Leadership

Trans4m and its partner organisation Coro India joined for a one day workshop at the premises of CORO in Mumbai, discussing the outline of  a new Center for Grassroots Leadership serving the state of Maharashtra and India. […]A group of senior executives of CORO India joined Trans4m’s Alexander Schieffer to explore ways to leverage CORO’s 25 year legacy, with a particular view to stimulating large-scale collective knowledge creation processes. Building also on the previous work of Trans4m Junior Fellow Zarah Kronbach and her research-to-innovation on Integral Community Empowerment, the group explored Action Research and Action Learning processes that could strengthen the capacity of the vast CORO network for collective knowledge creation by and for the grassroots, facilitated by a prospective new Center for Grassroots Leadership. A key challenge for CORO is to evolve from a highly successful community developer and community rights activist towards a catalyst for community-based knowledge creation and transformative education – an evolution, which would enable CORO to significantly increase its impact with regards to creating sustainable livelihood for marginalised women and other minorities in Mumbai’s slums as well as beyond Mumbai – thereby reaching out, ever more, towards the entire state of Maharashtra as well as, in time, to India as a whole.

The workshop was attended by key members of CORO’s leadership team, such as Mahendra Rokade, Nagesh Jadhav, Rahul Gaware, Supriya Jaan, Biju Bhosle, Moumita Deb, and stewarded by CORO`s co-founder Sujata Khandekar. Part of the workshop was also attended by India’s renowned filmmaker and social activist Arunaraje Patel.
