20 October 2020: On his 90th birthday, Trans4m participates in the celebration of Bradman Weerakoon, receiving the prestigious Hero of Humanity Award.
Bradman Weerakoon is one of Sri Lanka’s most revered and beloved civil servants, having served nine Prime Minsters and Presidents in a senior capacity. Deeply committed to peace his entire life, he was called out of retirement by the government to lead the peace negotiations. Bradman also won international acclaim for his sensitive leadership as Secretary General of IPPF, one of the world’s largest NGOs.
In the past twelve years, during which TRANS4M has been regularly working in Sri Lanka, the wisdom, advice and support of Bradman Weerakoon has been a vital pillar for our engagement with Sri Lankan society. TRANS4M cherishes Bradman Weerakoon’s holistic and inclusive way of serving his country and of always keeping the wellbeing of every member of society in mind. We called Bradman Weerakoon an “Integral Civil Servant“, who is equally “prolific” and engaged in restoring Sri Lankan communities (South of our Integral Worlds approach), renewing Sri Lankan culture (East), advancing understanding and knowledge of Sri Lanka’s history and political system (North) and tirelessly promoting and living peace building and reconciliation, as well as excellence in government and governance in and beyond Sri Lanka (West). All of these qualities are supremely held together by a personality of outstanding integrity (Center).
On October 20, 2020, Bradman Weerakoon celebrated his 90th birthday. On the same day he received the prestigious Hero of Humanity Award, by the Canada-based International Visioneers Network.
TRANS4M’s Alexander Schieffer had the honour to guide through the Award Ceremony, addressed by the founders of the Visioneers, Dr. Geraldine Schwartz and Dr. Desmond Berghofer; by Dr. Radhika Coomaraswami, a former Undersecretary General of the United Nations; and Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, President of the Sri Lankan SARVODAYA Movement, and a number of other national and international luminaries.
Bradman Weerakoon concluded the ceremony with a short acceptance speech – expressing gratitude to the honour bestowed on him, and to the extraordinary life he had been gifted with.
The entire TRANS4M and Home for Humanity global community uses this opportunity to express its gratitude to Bradman Weerakoon – not only for the invaluable support he has provided us with, but also for the shining role model of an Integral Civil Servant that will guide us and many for generations to come.
THANK YOU BRADMAN WEERAKOON!
